Research & Development

The products we produce are the main communication tool we use to reach people all across the globe: our primary responsibility in Research and Development is to delight the people to whom our products are destined. It is only by establishing a direct and personal relationship with them, the knowledge of their various lifestyles and a full understanding of their needs, both expressed and latent, that we can deliver new product solutions which people then adopt in their daily life. The fundamental tools we can use to realize this objective are represented by functional competencies, and a knowledge of food technologies and nutrition.

As part of our team, you will be involved in the whole product life-cycle from inception to production. Starting with idea generation and personal creativity, through to ingredients, nutrition science, technology, process and packaging definition,  you will work with experts of many different disciplines: from baking processing, pasta extrusion, drying, cooking, food stabilization technologies,  beverage processing, to chemistry-physics, microbiology, rheology, grains and food plants research, ingredients science, sensorial analysis, nutrient assessment and recommendation, to market research techniques, consumer surveys, statistics and project, people and knowledge management. All of these are necessary to get the product from lab bench to market and this experience is "peppered" with a strong incentive for innovation, a generous dose of passion and the desire to work together to achieve success.

You may be involved in new product development for a specific consumer target, or in thinking about the healthy new foods for our future, living day-to-day in a world of new  ingredients, technologies, processes and food experiences. A whole network of international experts and leading academic groups ensures our connection with the very latest scientific findings and nutrition news. Our attention to quality and nutrition is absolute and always united by the desire to pleasantly surprise, every time, those who choose and welcome us at their table. The process by which a new product, born from an idea, comes to life, is fascinating. It includes a series of interactions, sometimes unpredictable, between the development of prototypes on the one hand, and the continuous contact with the final consumers of our products to ensure the best quality final product.

Working closely with colleagues in our facilities located all over Europe and North America, and with professionals from Operation to Procurement, and Product Development to Marketing, you will be part of the Team that will shift, in the coming years, from 50 to 100 million the number of people choosing Barilla’s products each day.
